Streptomyces coelicolor exhibits a well-defined developmental cycle and synthesizes a diverse array of natural products, yet how cells within a colony decide their fate remains poorly understood. Therefore, the primary objective of my project is to examine the forces driving cell fate decisions regarding natural product synthesis and development in Streptomyces coelicolor. To this end, I will address three critical questions 1) Where do different cell types within a Streptomyces coelicolor colony localize? 2) What environmental conditions are linked to cell type? 3) What regulatory networks underlie cell fate decision-making? By incorporating advanced microscopy and expression profiling techniques, my project seeks to establish a fundamental understanding of Streptomyces coelicolor division of labor.
